Philips PicoPix projectors pop up at IFA 2010; lifespan of 20K hours
Sep 3rd
->
Philips keeps rolling out new gadgets at IFA 2010 in Berlin this week, continuing on with the PicoPix PC pocket pico projector series.
There are three members of this PicoPix collection, and they are quite different from each other as you move up the line. The PicoPix 1020 is the only one powered via USB, while the 1230 and 1430 are battery-powered. The latter two also both sport stereo speakers, while the 1430 is the premier member of the collection with an integrated MP4 player and an SD card slot.
The PicoPix devices project images at 20 to 30 lumens (depending on the model), at a contrast ratio of 400:1 with a resolution of 800 x 600. Each projector uses low-consumption LED bulbs and boast a lifespan of up to 20,000 hours.
Slated to launch in October, the PicoPix 1020, 1230 and 1430 will retail for â¬199 ($256), â¬269 ($345) and â¬299 ($384) respectively. Those prices will all included tax (but not shipping) – at least within the Eurozone.
Philips has been on a roll at IFA 2010 with a very wide range of products being unveiled, including a quartet of durable headphones produced in partnership with O’Neill and the Cinema 21:9 Platinum 3D TV.

Samsung rolls out fall line-up of new laptops; all under $1,100

Samsung has just introduced its sleek-looking, portable PC line-up for fall 2010, and it includes four laptops and a netbook.
All of the new laptops mentioned here are intended to function wherever the user might like. That means at home, work and on-the-go, so we should be seeing some lightweight machines with good specs, but not over the top.
The only truly customizable laptop on the list is the RF510-S01, which is grouped together with the RF510-S02 and the RF710. The big differences with the latter mobile PCs is that they are powered by Intel Core i7-720QM CPUs, and they can each hold up to 640GB of hard drive space. The RF710 also sports a 17.3-inch display. Philips Cinema 21:9 3D HDTV set to take over living rooms soon
Sep 2nd
Philips has taken its Cinema 21:9 Platinum TV and gone 3D, making this display the “world’s first cinema proportion 3D TV.”
Currently being shown off at IFA 2010, the 58-inch Cinema 3D TV obviously boasts a 21:9 widescreen ratio, and it uses Direct LED Pro and Ambilight Spectra 3 technology for improved illumination, shadows and colors onscreen.
The 3D LED display will also sport a 2,560 x 1,080 resolution and 400Hz picture processing, but no 2D conversion, which seems a bit strange. In the box, consumers will also get two pairs of 3D-ready glasses and an integrated 3D signal emitter.
The Cinema 21:9 3D TV will launch this month first in the Eurozone and the United Kingdom for â¬4,000 ($5,126) and £3,500 ($5,381) respectively. No word on when it will be released in the United States just yet.
